Mi asesora dé CalOptima me sugirió a la Dr. Tara Hawkins la contacté para que atendiera a mi hijo de 4 años que fue diagnosticado con autismo por su pediatra y necesitaba la evaluación por un especialista en el tema y desde que le llame para hacer una cita ella fue amable desde la primera llamada no me hizo sentir incómoda y mucho menos a mi hijo siempre me tuvo intérprete a mi disposición fueron tres secciones y en las tres fue muy profesional lo cual lo agradezco porque yo empecé a leer las opiniones qué hay aquí y realmente me asustaron muchos malos comentarios y muy negativos fui aterrada a la cita pero al verla realmente dije cómo dicen que es la peor persona poco profesional si a mi hijo le atendió muy bien y a mi por igual realmente estoy agradecida con la Dr. Hawkins y si en un futuro necesitamos de sus servicios no dudaré en contactarla o recomendarla para mi fue una profesional y yo sé lo hice saber tanto como me sentía y porque me sentía así por los malos comentarios que había de su profesión la verdad no se dejen llevar por una reseña mala o buena asta no ir y ver cómo te va a ti en tú cita.

Tara Hawins is an uncompassionate and unfair provider who, despite having low-income networks in her bandwidth, excessively charge her patients for the initial Q&A and “no-show” visits that, in actuality, were visits she had failed to help her patients reschedule. She was rude and blunt when speaking to my mother who was trying to schedule the initial Q&A, and has consistently ignored our attempts to reach out to meet for the actual assessment. We have decided to give up on her after being billed $200 for the less than 15 minute Q&A during which no mention of the actual assessment was made. Trying to work with her was a waste of time.

Terra Hawkins is the worst possible person you could choose to use for any kind of medical or psychological assessment. She is completely unprofessional, rude, and tried to get me to use her services without checking in with my insurance ($1500 out of pocket). She said I could pay out of pocket and then deal with my insurance. Finally, got that settled with my insurance company. I show up to my appointment and I’m immune compromised (as is my sister and she is severely medically fragile) and asked if she could please wear a mask (I even brought a new one for her). She said, “No, I don’t do that.” I explained that my sister is also immune compromised and spent 9-months in and out of the hospital last year and that I really could not be in a closed room with her without a mask. Again she said, “That is something I won’t do!” I asked if she could possibly do her assessment outside instead as a compromise and she said. “No, I won’t do that.” She refused at every turn. I told her I would have to leave then and reminded me that it was time for my appointment. I told her I could not stay if she was unable to make any kind of mask accommodations. Completely unacceptable from a medical professional. Use literally anyone else.

UPDATE Dr. Tara Hawinks charges $200 for no-shows regardless of the situation. My father passed away the day before my last appointment with her. Devastated, I suddenly had to leave town to attend his funeral. I tried texting and emailing her in multiple occasions to reschedule, but she never replied. I was finally able to reach her a week later, after rescheduling the last session I need from her. During our conversation, I asked about a $200 charge on my account. She explained that it’s what she charges for a no-show.
I asked her if that could possibly be waived, since I did try to reschedule, but she said that it is written in her contract that she does not respond to texts or emails. Of course, dealing with my father's loss was not easy, I had to drop everything else and leave town that I had omitted this outdated policy. I asked again if she could reconsider waiving the fee, she simply responded, “This is a business.” I never saw myself as a client, I thought I was her patient. Even businesses know how to take care of their clients. I could understand if I would have miss the appt out of my own fault but my day passed away. At that moment, I was only asking for a bit of empathy. Honestly, a simple "I will see what I can do" would have sufficed. As I was processing her response, she made other condescending comments. When, I told her I wouldn’t refer anyone to her business, she asked if I was threatening her… I was shocked she would take my comment like that when she was the one pulling the “this is a business” card. I was shocked by her response. I am sharing this experience because I and my insurance have paid hundreds of dollars on these services. So, word of advice, which I wish I would have known before, interview different psychiatrists before committing to giving your business to them and trusting them that they will see your humanity instead of another number on their books. UPDATE: The doctor ended up waiving the no-show fee. I just wish the process wouldn't have been so traumatic because at the end of the day I feel like this whole experience put a dent on my business/medical relationship with this provider. Second UPDATE: this doctor is unable to respond to simple questions about the reports she writes. She’s also incompetent to give explanations about how one one issue i.e. being bilingual can impact a learning disability assessment. First, she tried to disuade my request with a $200 appointment fee, when I said I could pay for it, she gave me an appointment for Jan 20, 2023. I had no problem with either. Then, she was rude and mocked my request when I said it I could afford to pay the fee and refused to schedule the appointment. She tried to gaslight me by telling me I was upset with the results, which is not true. I simply needed her to sit down and discuss the results with me. CONCLUSION: In my opinion, she’s awful and perhaps incompetent as a professional, and borderline abusive (bc of the gaslighting). She shouldn’t be allowed to work with vulnerable people as a psychiatrist/therapist.

Tara, I know appt was made a while ago but you never inform me about your location. Yes, appt is tomorrow and in order to prepare our appt, i need to check the address for the trip.
sorry to hear that your facility is only a person (you) and you have to answer the call & msg. but the patient & family need to contact you in a timely manner. you better have a person for contact with patients.
