Dr. Wrotslavsky is one of the best Drs. I've ever seen. My mom had a botched foot surgery and she went from an active happy person to constant foot pain and swelling. I didn't think anyone could help her. Dr W. Not only fixed both of her feet to perfection but he also cares. My mom can be super high maintenance and he never got annoyed with her calls, questions and concerns. He treats his patients with kindness, compassion, and respect. My mom had such a great experience she just had her second foot repaired and is so happy.

Before I dive into the details of my "not so good" experience, I'd like to say I think Dr. Wrotslavsky is probably a good podiatrist if you have an ingrown toenail. But if you need surgery I would HIGHLY recommend looking elsewhere. My experience with him following my surgery with him in 2020 was seriously disturbing and, in my opinion, highlights poor judgment, sloppy work riddled with mistakes, and inexperience that borders on medical negligence. If you're ready to read about this trainwreck of an experience buckle up...

Within 10 days of surgery, I developed my first ever blood clot in my calf. Not ever having had a clot before I had no idea what to expect. I texted Dr. Wrotslavsky and asked him if it was OK to massage my calf since it hurt quite a bit. He said YES. I forwarded this message to my doctor to confirm, who emphatically said, "NO, do not under any circumstances massage the leg. That could dislodge the clot and put you at risk of a pulmonary embolism." The hematologist agreed. Dr. Wrotslavsky also ordered a CIRCUL8 compression machine for me to wear for the remainder of my initial 6-week recovery. I, again, reviewed this recommendation with my doctor and she was shocked at his direction and told me under no circumstances to use that machine until I got clearance from hematology that the clot had resolved. This was a huge red flag. His advice put me at risk and could have turned an already serious situation into something much more serious, potentially fatal. Strike one.

When I saw him in late 2021, after months of considerable pain and swelling, it appeared that, based on a review of a follow up MRI, my tendon had thickened considerably. At the time, I didn't realize this was normal. When I asked what we should do he scratched his head (literally) and suggested removing the anchors that held my tendon in place and SHAVING THE TENDON to a more normal thickness. But, in his words, that wouldn't guarantee a fix because until we know what caused the tendon to thicken it could return. Because this surgery has such a high success rate, he was at a loss as to what to recommend. I was left feeling despondent. I was in more pain than ever.

In 2022, I consulted with a number of orthopedic surgeons to determine next steps. Four surgeons to be exact. Every surgeon said that having a thickened tendon after this kind of surgery was perfectly normal because it was operated on and it was no longer considered "healthy" tissue. To shave it could introduce a weakness that could make me weak and lame. If Dr. Wrotslavsky is a certified podiatrist, why didn't he know this? Strike two.

I later learned that I was in pain for two main reasons: (1) the screws were prominent (not flush with the bone) and irritating the surrounding tissue; this was an error on Dr. Wrotslavsky's part and a big source of my ongoing pain; and (2) there were still sharp bone fragments in my heel that were pressing into my tendon. Given the number of sharp fragments present one surgeon suspected they were never fully removed to begin with as there was no reasonable way bone spurs would grow that quickly to the point of causing such pain in a year's time. Strike three.

I endured a year of considerable pain and suffering trying to recover from what I've since learned was a botched surgery that I could never truly recover from because mistakes were made by Dr. Wrotslavsky that continued the pain cycle. As I'm typing this, I'm 7 months post-op from a revision surgery that I had done at UCSD by an amazing orthopedic surgeon. The differences in how they did the surgery and how I've recovered thus far compared to my surgery with Dr. Wrotslavsky are night and day. If I knew then what I know now I would have chosen to go with UCSD from the very beginning. And to add a cherry to this disaster of a sundae, I received a $114 bill for an office visit nearly 11 months after treatment. I don't take medical malpractice lawsuits lightly but I'm not going to lie...I spoke to an attorney about my experience with Dr. Wrotslavsky. Never again for me.

Dr Phil, as we fondly call him, is a great doctor who cares immensely cares about his patients. He also performed foot surgery on my friend and did a wonderful job on his deformed foot. He was able to straighten his foot to be flat again so he would be able to walk again. He is friendly and caring and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing foot or ankle care

You know right away as soon as he walks in the room that Dr. Wrotslavsky loves what he does and is a perfectionist about the care and treatment he offers. Not all Doctors are able to live up to this standard. Dr. Wrotslavsky does!
