My doctor recommended this place for therapy but student therapists are very unprofessional. First they deleted all my signed paperworks and made me sign everytime some regulations and delete everytime I finish it. Then after our intake my student therapist Alyan haven’t replied for a week just to say that I’m denied of their service as they aren’t equipped for the kind of services I’m looking for. And they don’t accept insurances. Just don’t go here and look for what your insurance can provide for your counseling needs.

I’m really grateful I have been able to attend therapy here, and have been going on a weekly basis for five months. I saw Colten, who is graduating soon- and I will probably be discontinuing my sessions afterwards. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and how to better handle strong feelings and emotions. I definitely feel like it takes a little longer to achieve your goals here, than you would with a fully licensed therapist - but considering how inexpensive this place is compared to a licensed therapist, it’s an exceptional value. I’d definitely recommend at least trying this place out.

I used to love the Grownowski Center and would constantly recommend this place to friends and family who needed affordable therapy. I’ve had good student therapists throughout my time here. However, recently I was rejected by Grownowski center due to some concerns about my past eating disorder. They felt like their student therapists were not equipped to deal with my PAST eating disorder. I was told that once I received a note from an eating disorder specialist that they recommended I could easily come back, but despite receiving an assessment that stated I didn’t need special eating disorder therapy I was denied the ability to come back. Grownowski center goes back on their word. Even after talking to assistant clinical director Dr. Quinton Bailey about why I was being denied therapy services I was told that they still feel I need to see a professional eating disorder specialist, so they chose to dismiss another professionals opinion? When I expressed my frustration and sadness about wanting to continue therapy I was just met with a generic “I’m holding space for your frustration”. I did everything I was told to do and they said I should see a nutritionist then MAYBE I could come back. I’m heartbroken by their decision and now feel like I’m back at step one with working on my mental health.

I’ve been going to this place for 5 years 2018-2023. I learned a lot about myself and student therapists I had were mostly inexperienced but conscientious and more helpful than not. Then in 2022-2023 I had a student therapist that in my opinion was not well qualified. She could not reflect my emotions or my thoughts, would constantly interrupt me in a rude manner and in general seem directionless. I quit after a few months. When I tried to get reinstated I was denied. No explanation. The intake student was cold with no empathy. This is a teaching institution that has paying students and paying a lot. The therapy is part of their curriculum. We are the Guinea pigs, not clients. We serve their purpose - they are not working for us. Please consider this. You will not have a therapist-client relationship here as you would with a licensed therapist.

I had 3 therapists here, and they all did a great job with me. I am a complicated case and with guidance from their instructors, and me being receptive and patient, they were each able to bring me some relief. I noticed that with each therapist, the first few weeks might be a bit tentative for them and then about the 3rd session, something would completely shift. I only left because I had to go back to work and they didn't have times that fit with my schedule.

I was a client for just over 4 months, couples therapy, and our therapist was phenomenal. And although it turned out that my ex was lying the entire time, I still took a lot away from our sessions. I'm now about to begin individual therapy, and I'm certain it'll just as helpful as the couples therapy was for me.

In my opinion this place is not very good. However they have a sliding fee scale and it was very cheap for me so I guess I got what I paid for.
My intern was named ANNA and she was not very professional. She would begin the sessions by asking 'what is important to talk about?', which in my opinion is a way to cop out of the Socratic Method, which is the cornerstone of therapy. She would often ask erroneous questions which would lead us to tangents, thus wasting precious time. I told her about some challenges I was grappling with and she said she would help me devise a plan or formulas to start tackling them, but then never did.
She never took any notes. She acted very interested until I was asked to complete a survey to rate her performance, in which I gave quite high marks, and then her performance began to slide. It was almost as if she was going through the motions to hit the 50 minute mark as smoothly as possible.
After one of the sessions she mentioned how much money she could make after finishing the program. She would ask hypothetical questions that were a bridge to nowhere. She would ask me how I felt about a certain issue and when I replied she would correct me and tell me I was being judgemental instead of expressing feelings.
Finally, during the last session, for reasons I still can't figure out, she stopped talking and gave me a smug, blank stare for about 45 seconds. If you do go here as a patient, I don't recommend ANNA.
