Today was my initial visit to the clinic, the facility interior is warm welcoming and well decorated. The staff was friendly and efficient, Dr. was professional and made me feel very comfortable. I highly recommend the Essie M.B. Smith Foot Clinic.

Physical appearance of facility is beautiful, well kept and clean. Staff was attentive, friendly and very professional. The exam, x rays and tests were very thorough. Dr. Brown is awesome. I could tell the nurses love working there. I plan to refer family and friends.

This was the first time I have been to a podiatrist. The experience was great. I learned a lot about what is going on with my foot. Dr Brown explain everything and told me what I needed to do to relieve the pain. Again a great experience, glad I went there.

Dr. Brown is great! I keep getting the calloused areas on my feet and she always trim them off with a gentle touch! OMG! When I leave out of the office I could almost run because my feet feel so good! She always provides diabetic care to my feet and toenails. She seems to have good interaction with her staff they all are friendly and helpful to the patients. She’s knowledgeable and will refer you out to a great specialist for your veins.

My first podiatry appointment, and I was nervous. But Dr. Brown and her staff made me feel at ease. Dr. Brown talked to me about my foot condition and recommended treatment options. She was welcoming Bd professional, guiding me through the conversation without being too short or long. I appreciate her process and I'm looking forward to my next appointment

Would have to rate this experience as the worst experience ever. I’ve NEVER been to a dr who seemed to be so genuinely uninterested in assisting the patient as Dr. Brown. The fact that I was able to get an appointment so quickly should have been a major red flag for me. I ignored it because I was excited about having the opportunity to visit with someone who is considered an expert in their field of practice. Dr. Brown was highly recommended and after my experience I’m sure it’s because those individuals have an extensive personal relationship with her.
Moving right along let’s get into why I have two stars. The rating and the office saving grace were the two receptionists I had the pleasure of meeting that morning. They were polite, honest and were able to answer all of my questions. I was told that my insurance would only be taken as a secondary insurance and if I had a primary….. (my insurance is provided by the military). I was then told that I would have to pay $245 to be seen… yes, $245 ! (So now I’m paying the same amount as an individual who has no insurance at all) . I paid the amount (and I know that I should have canceled and just walked out but again I was elated to finally have the opportunity to see a podiatrist)
I was most likely the 2nd appointment for the morning and after their routine intake procedure I waited in the exam room for what seemed like eternity but ended up being about a hr. The dr comes in an immediately I noticed her unpleasant body language (it really made me feel like I was wasting her time for wanting her assistance.
Long story short, I had an injury to my toe, and it seemed to have gotten an infection, and I say this because the toenail was lifting from the base from the growth point. The nail had a weak spot around the base and one area where it was flaking and creating a hole where water and moisture could get in. She barely even looked at the nail and said that it looked fine to her and that I said if it wasn’t hurting or bothering me, then she wouldn’t be concerned about it. Mind you, the bottom of the toenail is not even connected to the nail bed and it’s a different color and I did mention that part of my foot was sore and she did nothing. She offered medicine that required an enzyme test before being able to receive a prescription, meaning it’s hard on your liver so that was a no for me. She did not offer to take a sample to make sure it wasn’t an infection and something that could’ve been even more serious. I reiterated the soft spot and she looked at it and said well, there’s nothing flaking now there’s nothing wrong with it and that was even after she lightly grazed over it with her finger. The assistance that she provided was recommended that I do nothing, keep the toenail and take the oral medication that would affect my liver or I just remove it and then treat it with the oral medicine. Then she proceeds to review my x-rays of my feet. Yes, x-rays were taken. She tells me all these other things that I am aware of which is not a concern because corrective measurements have been taking for those issues and the issue that I came for was swept under the rug by her.
The very next day, the nail broke from one side to the next almost completely. It was basically that entire weak portion close to the cuticle and the bottom part of the toenail had to come off and upon getting that part of the toenail removed, an infection was discovered. After the area was drained and clean my foot immediately stopped hurting. This is something that I paid to receive assistance for and ended up having to find other assistance to help remedy the issue.
I do not live in the area so not only did I have to take off but I had to travel just to be disappointed.
I will no add photos to this post as it’s a sensitive topic for me. I do have photos and videos of my nail.
