I had to undergo paracentesis on 12/20/24. The procedure is to remove accumulated fluid in the stomach due to dialysis. Everything went smoothly. From registration to preop at the short term stay to the procedure itself to post op. I’d like to give a shoutout to Kathy in short term stay. She was very nice and made me feel comfortable. Shout out to the team that did the actual procedure, Dr Jessica Young, PA Victor, sonogram tech, Kathleen, annd nurse, Debbie. Everyone was very nice and professional. Since I only had local anesthesia, they were able to kept me apprised every step of the way. Thank you for taking such good care of me.

All three of our children were born at Washington Hospital, some years ago. Our first was the most challenging: born premature and ultimately spent 19 days in the NICU. Our subsequent children were delivered via C-section but were handled by the regular maternity floor without needing the NICU.

We are very, very happy with Washington Hospital. We received good care, mother and babies alike.

First off, I want to emphasize some important things about the Washington Hospital Birthing experience here in case people don't read the full review:

1.) Breast-Feeding First Hospital
Washington Hospital is a breast-feeding first hospital and they will highly encourage (at times maybe push) for this way of feeding for the newborn. In case you already know you don't want this specific method, you should probably search another hospital that is more alternative friendly to formula or expressing milk from pumping into a bottle.

2.) Natural Delivery (not officially stated)
Based on my experience, they also highly prefer doing a natural delivery if at all possible rather than going for a c-section. Of course they will make the right call if there is a high-risk of natural delivery issues but they will try their best to give a natural delivery if they can.

3.) No Nursery (only NICU - neonatal intensive care unit)
For safety reasons, they have gotten rid of their general nursery (no chance of accidentally switching the baby with another as well as more bonding time with the baby). As such, keep in mind that your baby will be with you at all times even when you are exhausted and need a break. If you prefer a hospital with a general nursery so you can rest, you should also look elsewhere.

FULL REVIEW (more detailed breakdown):

[[ Parking ]]
Although they have ample parking and overflow lots in the adjacent street, the actual parking lot in front of the hospital/birthing center is small and tight in size. If you happen to go at a busy time, you definitely will not find parking and this can be stress-inducing if your wife is already feeling contractions. They do have a drop-off / pick-up area but I did not find the overall parking situation great. I hope they are able to expand out their parking lot in the future in front of the main entrance to relieve stress.

[[ Security ]]
There is a security check-in and bag inspection before even getting to the 2nd floor birthing area. When the baby is born, they will also be geo-tagged to make sure they are not taken out of the hospital without permission and they are very careful around this area.

[[ Labor & Delivery Staff, Security, Postpartum Staff, Doctors ]]
Overall, I would like to say most of the staff here are extremely caring and very supportive. They would check-in often to see how things are going and I believe genuinely love their jobs and babies as well. The staff that helped us were all parents themselves and can relate to what we are going through and always gave tips on what to do in the future in order to have an easier time.

Keep in mind, a variety of staff (nurse, lab staff, doctors) will be in and out at various times so expect a TON of traffic into your room. On the whiteboard in your room, you will have a dedicated nurse and a supervisor (in case you can't reach your nurse) with their numbers to dial in case you need help. They all have shifts so the staff will change often after their shift is over and you will get a new staff to help you.

[[ Facilities ]]
Before you are officially admitted, you will first go to a holding room for a while to make sure the labor and delivery is actually coming soon. After that, they will move you to your permanent room. The permanent room is decently sized and the pull out-bed couch for me was long enough (I'm 5' 11'' and fit well). We overpacked since we had no idea what we needed but I was able to fit my medium sized luggage, two backpacks, a duffel, and various other blankets/pillows without too much issue. See picture for a general idea of what it looks like.

The only downside I think of the room is the bathroom/shower area. It's VERY small and I only used the shower once since I thought it was uncomfortable. I'm not sure how someone who just delivered a baby can comfortably use the shower without feeling cramped. Hopefully it will get a remodel soon?

I am so shocked at this hospital. I went to the ER to be seen while I was on duty there. I could not believe me being an employee all that happened.( just resigned today ) Absolutely shocked.
The main complaint is on my after care paper work the doctor stated on my chart that he performed an exam on me. I did not even see the doctor. If I get a bill for the Dr billing part I will seek legal advice.
“ my chart “ says the doctor did an exam on me etc. I sat in a room not in a hospital gown on a chair. RN brought me my discharge papers.
I was so shocked as an employee there. ( I am able to post now that I resigned )
Honestly I see now why all the negative reviews. ( ER REGISTRATION GIRLS WERE AMAZING AND THE LAB TECH )
I went the next day to get a copy of my medical record and after reading my medical record false information in my record. Dr saying he did a complete exam on me. Pretty sad. There needs to be audits done on some of these innocent people that get the ER doctor bill part and not even seen by the ER doctor.
I can not respond to patient experience email that says to respond to because that was my supervisor that reads these. My assumption that is since she is head of compliance.

I don’t want to get into legal trouble, but I’ve had personal issues with the treatment I received at this hospital. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to go to their emergency room. I can’t go into detail, but I strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere if you can. UCSF or another facility might be a better option. Avoid this place if possible.
